Summary Chiltern Firehouse or "Chilts" has been the biggest hit amongst the A-listers when it opened in mid 2014. You name it, Emma Watson, Adele, the Beckhams, are regulars here, so no doubt ordinary diners would have to book way in advance. We rang the restaurant 2 weeks earlier and surprisingly got 2 places at the bar at 2pm on a Sunday. As we arrived, we were told to wait, and we were not seated until 2:30pm. However, that paid off with their amazing food, literally almost all of the dishes we ordered were spot on. Food wise, we would have given it a 9/10 or above, however the pace of the service was slow and that would be the major area of improvement possible. A meal for two would cost around £120. |
Cornbread Fingers
We ordered 2 of their signature snacks and here is the first one, cornbread served with chipotle-maple butter. The dish looked ordinary, however it completely blown us away. The cornbread was soft and warm with a slight crunch on the outside and the butter was absolutely gorgeous, sweet, nutty with a hint of spiciness in the background. It was so good we ended up ordering another one! (£4)

Crab Donuts
Our second snack was the famous crab donuts (almost as famous as the regulars here). Chopped crabs in cream sauce between two icing sugar-dusted donuts. After seeing this dish being praised by the bloggers and celebrities alike, we were surprised as we have to admit that it was probably our least favourite dish of the meal, not because it wasn't delicious or anything, but the other dishes were just better. Perhaps we've spent too much time in Japan, where we were served whole legs of King crab; the crabs were chopped so finely that they could've replaced it with chopped crab sticks and nobody would notice. (£7)

Monkfish Cooked over Pine
Moving on to the main course, our monkfish was perfectly cooked with the texture almost as "bouncy" as that of a scallop. (£32)

Chargrilled Iberico Pork
Our second main course is the Iberico Pork, cooked medium rare. The texture was very similar to that of a beef and it was probably on of the best pork dishes we've ever had. (£32)

Chocolate Tarte
Served with toasted barley ice cream. The tarte was not too sweet, slightly bitter which was nice, and went well with the ice cream. (£9)

Milk & Honey
Milk ice cream with honeycombs, meringues and honey jellies, topped with some honey. The balance in this dessert was amazing, the milk ice cream went so well with the honey jellies with a slight crunch from the honeycomb bits. (£9)

Since the restaurant does not post their menu on the website, this might be quite useful for those who would like to get an idea of what dishes are served here (as of March 2015).
